NEW. LEGISLATION

TRADES COUNCIL TRIBUTE

The Wellington Trades and Labour ■Council, in a resolution passed this week, expressed appreciation of the efforts of the Prime Minister and his colleagues to improve the general living standard in New Zealand and pledged itself to give loyal support to the Labour Party. The text of ths resolution is as follows:—

"That this- council place on record its high, appreciation of the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) and his Labour colleagues for their honesty and courage in placing on the Statute Book legislation having for its objept an improvement in the standard of living of the masses of the people, many of whom have suffered privation and want during the last five years. Poverty was never more acute; the people were hungry, yet food was never in the history of this country more plentiful.

"This first Labour Government in New Zealand has by its humanitarian legislation brought hope to its people and deserves, and should receive, the wholehearted and loyal support of- all who stand for humanity and progress. This council will at all times, as in the past, givs its unqualified support and assistance to the Labour Party in its fight for justice and freedom."
