GENERAL INCREASES
Customs'collections in other centres are reported by the Press Association as follows:—
Auckland. —General increases are shown in Customs and other taxation figures for Auckland for the first sixi months of the present year, as compared with the corresponding period last year, .and also for June, as com-pared-with June; 1935. ' The figures for June, are as follows, last year's results1 being in parentheses:—Customs, £238,- v 626 (£180,647); petrol and tires, £56,215 (£36,728); excise on beer, £13,957! (£3493); sales tax, £72,445 (£57,249). The figures for six months, as compared with the same period last year, are:— Customs, £1,505,149 (£1,248,563); motor spirit and tires, £397,314 (£294,675); excise on beer, £77,674 (£64,910); sales tax, £394,605 (£324,977). Christchurch. —Customs revenue for the June quarter; shows a' considerable increase over the same quarter of last year. The figures are as follows, those for the similar period of last year being shown in parentheses:—Customs, £242,046 (£208,295); beer duty, £21,101 (£21,147); sales tax, £91,387 (£78,257); petrol tax, £57,713 (£55,548); tire duty, £2460 (£3153). For the month of June the figures are: Customs, £81,006 (£57,777); beer duly, £7980 (£6255);./sales tax, £32,283 (£25,714); : petrol ' duty, £19,389 t£16,546); tire: duty, £587 (£894).

Returns for the first quarter of the current financial year, together with comparative figures for the corresponding period of last year, are as follows:—Customs duty, £163 336 (£153,910); beer duty, £58,038 (£51,252); sales tax, £69,806 (£60,503); petrol tax, £38,932 (£41,121); tire tax, £1866 (£2193); gold duty, £6280 (£5229).
