REV. W. R. MILNE

VALEDICTORY SOCIAL

On the eve of their departure for Auckland/the Rev. W. R. Milne (minister of St James' Presbyterian Church, Wellington South) - and' Mrs. Milne were tendered a valedictory social, by the congregation 'on Monday evening in the Sunday- school halL There -was a large attendance, and. amongst those present 'were 'a number of ministers of other churches in the city. ; • ■ In presenting Mr. Milne, on behalf of the congregation, with a suitably-in-scribed wallet and a cheque,..the session clerk referred to his faithful and devoted service during the past seven years and expressed the deep sense of loss which the congregation felt at his impending departure. Mr. and Mrs. Milne had endeared themselves ' ,to -one and all. Mrs. Milne s task had not been a light one. Although;her; primary duty had .been to her family, she had found time to devote to the affairs of the P.W.M.U. and the^ Mothers' Union. Throughout the ministry the spiritual condition of the church had stood at a high level, and neither Mr. Mime nor Mrs. Milne had spared themselves in the many duties that "had devolved upon them. In reply, Mr. Milue stated that they were: both very sad at the thought Of leaving the sphere in which they had received such loyal support. They would ever cherish the friendships they had made and hoped that the church would continue to prosper in the years to come. They felt deeply grateful for the honour which the ■people had extended to them by attending in such large numbers that evening. % ■ ' The Revs. A. A. Armstrong, W. Parker, and D. M. Hercus then addressed the meeting, paying tribute to Mr. and Mrs. Milne's sterling qualities, and expressing the wish that they would enjoy a very successful ministry in their new charge. During the evening items wei-e rendered by the' Rev. Archibald Hunt. Misses M. Wilson, and'G. Webb, and Messrs. F. Anderson and A. Wilson. Messrs. .A. A. Brown and N. K.
