It was obvious that there was some mistake. Fuller particulars to hand disclose that Count Roussillon was properly disqualified, and that the third horse was The Hiker, who was moved up to that position from fourth. As there were only six starters no dividend attached to third place.

BY UNBEATEN STALLION

Lovely Kosa, winner of this year's Oaks, had started only once previously during the term, in the One Thousand Guineas, in which she did not finish in the first dozen. Last season she won a single race at Newbury. In the Free Handicap she was 'lightly assessed, being placed only on 7.11, 161b below Tide-way, who won the One Thousand Guineas. Tide-way was a starter in the Oaks, but she was not herself and was a doubtful runner a week before the race.

Lovely Rosa is by the unbeaten horse Tclgus, whose record and promise as a sire were reviewed in these columns earlier in the year, and who is of interest to the Dominion as belonging to a family that has done much towards building up the success of the Stonyhurst Stud, particularly through Bill of Portland and Treadmill. P'or a horse who has never been given many good mares Tolgus has sired a great number of winners. He was transferred early this year from Ireland to the Scaltbock Stud at Newmarket, where he is now certain to receive greater opportunities. The Oaks victress is another of the many yearling bargains that the trainer Harry Cottrill has made. He paid only 1370gs for her at the Dublin sales, and resold her at Newmarket for 670gs. She ultimately became the property of her present owner, Sir Abe Bailey, who had never previously had a classic success. On the day that Lovely Rosa was sold in Dublin her dam, Napoule, a daughter of Bachelors Double, was disposed of for only 21gs. After her Oaks win Lovely Rosa was led in by Lady Bailey, as Sir Abe. who had returned from South Africa only a few weeks previously, was not in the best of health, though he was present to witness his colours carried to success.
