L. SOWERBY'S GOOD WIN SPIRIT CUP CONTEST The twenty-two miles handicap for the Spirit Cup held by the Port Nicholson Cycling Club on Saturday afternoon was won by Len Sowerby (lmin), who came from Nelson for the race. He also made fastest time. Johnson and Robinson the limit men, were not caught until half-way through the second lap. when Johnson found the pace too hot, and fell back. Robin-, son linked up with the 4min men. who were closely followed by the llmin men. McLcod and G. Amy. who were holding their own for a time on the lmin and scratch bunch. Sowerby and J. Wilson were lapping at a great pace, and at the end of the first lap had gained 30sec on the scratch men. K. Wilson and F. Frnnklyn. Starting the second lap, Franklyn touched his co-marker's wheel and fell. He .remounted, but found the lone ride too much against the combinations' in front and lost time as the race progressed. There were many changes in the second lap. By this time the scratch men were broken up, and were well out of the picture, and K. Wilson (scr) withdrew. McLeod and Amy were riding all out to keep away from the hot pace of J. Wilson and L. Sowerby. but it looked as if these riders would fight out the issue. Four miles from the finish the field bunched. One mile from home G. Amy (l£min) broke away from the bunch of ten. only to be caught again, and in a hectic finish Len Sowerby (lmin) drew away to win by four lengths from C. McGuirk <4min) and A. J.
