INCREASED BUSINESS
SAVINGS BANKS IN BRITAIN (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, June 18. In a letter to the annual conference of the Trustee Savings Banks' Association, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr. Neville Chamberlain, notes that the past year has been marked by a further substantial increase, not only in deposits, but in the number of depositors, particularly in the ordinary departments, which are the backbone of the Savings Banks system. Co-operation between banks and other partners in the national savings movement has continued to be close and fruitful. New trustee banks established under the Savings Bank Act, 1929, adds the Chancellor, have made good progress. During the last year three new banks were established, and no fewer than twenty-six branches were opened by existing banks.
