ANZAC STAMPS

' ♦ PUBLIC SUPPORT Appreciation of the support given by the general public to the campaign for the sale of Anzac commemoration stamps was expressed by the annual conference of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association today, and an appeal was made for additional support before the stamps are withdrawn from sale tomorrow. A motion was carried accordingly.

A report showing the total sales of Anzac stamps to date was presented, the grand total being £12,872 13s 3d. It was stated that the returns were incomplete and it was hoped the final returns would be about £15,000.

It was recommended that the net proceeds of the sales (half of the total, less, expenses) should be allocated to the local associations on the basis of the stamps sold in the district covered by the associations, but that all sales by headquarters and overseas should constitute a national fund on a basis similar to the Paderewski Fund.

This was opposed in favour of a national fund to be controlled by Dominion headquarters of the association and an amendment was carried in favour of a national fund.
