j A SUCCESSFUL YEAR j SOCIAL ACTIVITIES 1 Although the membership of the - Miramar auxiliary committee of the f Wellington Returned Soldiers' Associa- : tion decreased slightly last year, the t committee continued its activities in E the social life of the suburb and in - assisting unemployed returned soldiers and their dependants. The committee held its annual meeting last evening, when Mr. O. G. Smith presided over ' a small attendance of members, the ; weather being against a good attend- ' ance. 3 The anual report stated that tne membership had decreased from 50 to " 46, but at the same time those recuir- " ing assistance had been reduced from 1 65 to 25. During the year 25 men were 1 given a total of 508 days' work end had been enabled to earn £265, of 3 which £109 was found by the commiti tee as subsidy. In addition, £22 was 0 supplied for assistance. . The year closed with a credit = balance of £84, which, with the ao--5 cumulated funds, gave the auxiliary a 1 balance of £118. The women's auxih--1 ary had expressed the desire that £73 from a fair held in the district should _ form the nucleus of a fund for erecting a clubroom, The committee had received permission from the association's executive to secure a suitable i section, and the subject would be energetically pursued. The chairman, Mr. ' C. O. Bell, having been elected to p the association executive, had resigned j the position, Mr. O. G. Smith, vicee chairman, taking over the position, and r Mr. E. A. Golding taking over that of i vice-chairman. a The following officers were elected:— Patron. Mr. Gordon Harcourt; chairman, Mr. O. G. Smith; vice-chairman, Mr. E. A. Golding; hon. secretary, Mr. ? F.
