DEMOCRAT PLATFORM

DESIGNED TO OUTDO THE

REPUBLICANS

FEDERAL TUBLIC WORKS United Press Association —Uy Electric Telierapb—Copyright. WASHINGTON, June 14. Authoritative sources revealed today that the Democrats are drafting a second New Deal designed to go one better than the Republicans' platform. The Democrats will pledge a Federal plan for public works, whereas the Republicans favour' executing such undertakings on individual merits. The plan would permit an immediate beginning of large-scale construction in the event of another depression or other emergency. The Democrat platform is to call for long-range slum clearance and to endorse the Administration's farm, social security, stock market regulation, and other operating programmes. Financing of the slum clearance plan is not discussed, but a new bond issue is being considered.
