BOWLING
THORNDON CLUB
The membership of the Thorndon Bowling Caub kept at the maximum during last season, the annual report of the club states, 129 being on the roll at th& beginning of the season and 130 at the end, and the club was able to improve' its financial position by over £110. Expenditure on plant was not heavy, the main item being £11 10s for a water sprinkler which was not needed during the season, the natural rainfalTsiipplying all requirements. However, it is considered that the sprinkler would justify, itself during any normal season. "From a bowler's point of view," states the report, "last season was one of the worst' experienced for a number of years. There were many wet weekends and on-several occasions when it was fine overhead on a Saturday, the green was unfit for play - owing to heavy downpours the day before. However, all club competitions were finalised, for which thanks are due to the match committee.
"It is with deep regret we record the deaths of Messrs. F. J. Halse, A. D. Kennedy, arid J. Pearde Luke," the report concludes. "Mr. Halse, • known to most of his bowling associates as the •Governbr,' was one of our oldest 'and mo*t respected fnembers ahd will be sadly missed. Wei; Can truly say he played the gainie for the game's sake. Mr. Kennedy's place will be hard to fill. He was a member of the committee and one of the most active in all matters pertaining to' the social activities of the club. Mr. Pearee Luke was, unfortunately, with us only for a short time, but during that time he endeared himself to all."
