THIS YEAR'S DRAW
N.Z. COUNCIL MEETING
The draw for the Chatham Cup competition was announced by Mr. J. A. Milburn, chairman of the council of the New Zealand Football Association, at last night's council meeting, which confirmed it.
By July 11 all local finalists are to be found. On July 18 Otago is to play Southland at Dunedin and Westland to play Buller at Greymouth; on July 25 Auckland will play South Auckland at Hamilton, and Otago will play Canterbury at Christchurch. On August 1 or 8 Canterbury or Otago will play West Coast or Buller at Christchurch or Greymouth. Should Otago defeat Canterbury on July 25 they will play Westland or Buller at Greymouth on August 1. If Canterbury defeat Otago they will play Westland or Buller at Christchurch on August 8. On August 15 Wellington will play Auckland or South Auckland at Auckland or Hamilton, and on August 29 the final will be played.on the Basin Reserve, Wellington. In the event of a draw after full time and extra play the match is to be played on the Monday following. The programme must be strictly adhered to and the council will not under any circumstances consider any alteration in the dates.
Otago's challenge for the F.A. Trophy was received and Canterbury, the holders, have been notified.
Permission was granted the Canterbury F.A. to play Otago a return match for the J. E. Jones trophy at Dunedin next Saturday and to play Westland at Christchuch on June 23.
"I think there is little doubt that a good amateur team will be forthcoming to tour New Zealand in 1937," said Brigadier-General W. K. N. Madocks, the New Zealand Football Association's representative on the English Football Association in a letter from London. "The summer meeting, which is the next meeting of the Football Association, takes place on June 27, after which I hope to be able to send you further information." '
Council members axpressed gratification with their representative's efforts to obtain a tour by an English team.
Replying to a circular letter from the council on the subject of the game in the primary schools, Mr. J. H. Bocock, the primary schools' representative on the Auckland F.A. control board, said that the principal of the Auckland Training College had been interviewed and this season had agreed to the introduction of the code into the college. A Training College team was already playing in the competitions.' This would be a great boon to school Soccer in the near future and it was hoped to have more than one training college team playing next season.
Mr. J. A. Milburn presided over last night's meeting and there were also present Messrs. H. L. Godber, H. H. A. Renai, P. McKenzie, W. J. I. Vaney, F. Sanders, W. L. Wilson, W. G. Bryce, B. Martin, and the secretary (Mr. Alf. Williams).
