PIONEER CLUB CENTRE
The recent meeting of the Women's Institute Centre of the Pioneer Club was very well attended by visitors and centre members. Miss Kane presided.
Mr. and Mrs. Lundius gave an interesting talk abouttheir personal experiences during the Tarawera eruption of 1886, and questions were asked and answered. Two visitors, Mrs. Deans (Darfield Women's Institute) and Mrs. David Bains (Fairlie Women's Institute), spoke briefly of institute ideals. Miss Russell-Ferguson brought a greeting from the institute in Oban, and gave a most happy description of early institutes in the Hebrides.
It was stated that a bridge party, organised by Mrs. Henderson and Mrs. McGuone, resulted in a satisfactory sum being raised for institute purposes, the prizes being won by Mrs. Wilkins and Mrs. Henderson. Mrs. K. N. Heighway was elected the delegate to attend the conference to be held in Dunedin.
Afternoon tea and a social half-hour concluded proceedings.
