A CELEBRATION

HUTT VALLEY W.D.F.U. The hall was brightly deeoraled with streamers and holly berries, a cheerful fire of pine cones creating a welcome contrast to the frosty conditions prevailing out of doors; Among those present were Mrs. Dennis (president of the Wellington branch) and Mrs. Smith (Dominion secretary).

A much-appreciated birthday . cake was donated by Mrs. Maher. Mrs. Hawthorne made a suitable speech after being presented with a very dainty bouquet made by Mrs; Fred Whiteman. Mr. Maher (president of the Hutt Valley Farmers' Union) presented a trophy cup to Mrs. G. Benge for obtaining the most points in the monthly competitions during the year.

Items were contributed by Miss H. Gorrie, and Mr. M. Cottle, the latter also acting as M.C. Mr. Jones conducted a cheery community sing.

The monthly meeting was also held recently, when the vice-president, Mrs. Collie, presided over a large attendance. A dainty little silver bell, presented to the division by Mrs. G. Benge, was very much appreciated by the members. Mrs. Ross gave an interesting demonstration of glove-mak-

ing, and also the cutting of gloves from home-cured skins. The competition, an egg cosy, was won by Mrs. Benge, Miss Tyer being second. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs. S. Benge and Mrs. T. Burrell.
