FAIR AT FIRST
RAIN BEFORE MONDAY
Special forecast for Wellington:—
Moderate but freshening northerly winds.
Weather fair, mild, and hazy, with unsettled conditions gradually developing tomorrow, and rain probable before Monday.
The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today, is for light to moderate, and later freshening northerly winds. Weather fair to fine generally at first, and temperatures rising, and clouding over in western and northern districts, and rain gradually developing. An anti-cyclone still covers the North Island, but is moving slowly eastwards, and a depression is advancing across the Tasman Sea. A few isolated showers fell yesterday between Wairoa and East Cape, and a fresh southerly wind and showers were reported this morning at East Cape. Otherwise the weather has been fair to fine, and by this morning winds had become northerly nearly everywhere, and were still light to moderate. Cloud has increased, however, in the western and southern districts of the South Island.
Sharp frosts occurred in many places last night. Auckland had a brilliantly fine day yesterday, with a light southerly wind. At 9 a.m. today it was calm and misty. It was fine also in Wellington, with 7.3 hours of bright sunshine, and only a very light northerly breeze. At Christchurch the weather was fine and bright, a north-easterly breeze freshening in the afternoon. . This morning a fresh easterly wind and overcast conditions were reported. Dunedin has had fair to cloudy weather, with a light northerly wind.
