"Eleadee," commenting on a reported reference by Mr. R. A. Wright to £30,000,000 placed in the Post Office Savings Banks by the workers of New Zealand, states that on March 31 there was £51,000,000 in the Savings Bank.
A hope that the Government, having legislated to introduce the 40-hour week, will see that it is enforced in restaurants as well' as factories, is expressed by "Fair Play." The correspondent says that some waitresses have to work long hours and cannot complain for fear of losing their jobs. Inspectors should be appointed to go round the various restaurants and inIsist on observance of the new law.
As the pay-out of the old age pension falls this month on the Monarch's birthday (writes a correspondent) it is sincerely hoped that the Minister of Pensions (Mr. Parry) will see his" way to pay all pensions on the day preceding the holiday.
