MONTHLY MEETING A meeting of the Wellington Centre if the New Zealand branch of the Briish Red Cross Society and Order of Jt. John was held on Tuesday, Mr. H. lose presiding. The request of Mrs. Hall for leave >f absence to visit England was [ranted, members extending good vishes to her for her journey. A cheque for £24 4s 2d was received 'roni the St. John Ambulance Associaion, being its quota of the amount ipent on clothing for New Zealand Ex)editionary Force men and their desendants. The admission of an ex:oldier to Mowai Home for a period of :onvalescence was agreed to. _ _ A letter was received from the Taiiape R.S.A. advising that the Ohotu Public Library had donated its com--)lete library comprising 913 books to he Mowai Home. , , ; This generous gift was accepted with varm thanks, authority being given to provide the necessary accommodation 'or the books. Appreciation was expressed to the Minister of Railways for lie free carriage of the books on rail. The hon. secretaries of New Plymouth, Eltham, and Waipukurau subsen tres wrote acknowledging supplies >f cigarettes, tobacco, and other com'orts for ex-service memin hospital in ;hose districts. . Regret was expressed at the resigna;ion of Mr. Jamieson, occupational instructor at the Pukeora Sanatorium, ,vh6 had been transferred to Wellingori. Mr. Boyce, a patient at the sana;orium, was appointed to the position. The matron, Pukeora Sanavorium, submitted her monthly, report coverng activities of the society at that institution. The various sub-centres ol he Red Cross, and numerous private ndividuals in the district, had eojperated in collecting and sending in ill manner of reading matter, com'orts, etc., which had been distributed imong the patients. The chairman, Mr. tiose, commented on the excellent manler in which the Hawke s Bay people lad carried on this work. Mr Boyes, official visitor to wei.ington Hospital, reported that in comDany with Messrs. Williams and Anderson visits had been paid to the General Sospital, Victoria, and Ewart Wards, jt weekly intervals. Individual visits iad totalled 320 for the month, being 34 patients per visit. Three patients iad passed away during the period and the committee extended sympathy to the bereaved relatives. . . Mr. A. H. Bath, official visitor to Porirua Mental Hospital, stated that there were 131 ex-service men on the register. These had been visited and comforts in the form of cigarettes and tobacco distributed among them. Miss Cow reported that the women s committee had met at regular intervals for the purpose of purchasing supplies of comforts for ex-service men in hospital. Underclothing issues had been supplied to twenty-four. men of the N.Z.E.F., and 11 Imperial men had been relieved. __ The matron of the Red Cross Home gratefully acknowledged the following goods:—Fruit, Miss Price, Miss Chalmers; wild duck, Messrs. Payne, Elliott, and Haldane; magazines, Mr. Potts, : Mr. Goodall, Wellington Women's Club. Mr. Meier;, flowers, Mr. Hughes. Miss Price; playing cards, Mr. H. Nathan; fish, Lady Shirtcliffe.
