FUTURE OF DAIRYING
GOVERNMENT'S POLICY ANXIETY AND HOPE (Br Telegraph—Press Association.) HASTINGS, June 3, Jersey cattle breeders from many parts of the Dominion were gathered at Hastings today for the annual meeting of the New Zealand Jersey Cattle Breeders' Association. Uncertainty in the industry at the present time, especially in view of the Government's declared policy of guaranteed prices, was commented upon by Mr. G. H. Bell, the president. "Today the majority of us are a little nervous," he said, adding that at the time of the General Election last year electioneering speeches of candidates seemed attractive in their reference to guaranteed prices. Now a great many dairy farmers were anxious as to what their position might be in the future. "We can only hope that the step the Government is taking will not be a retrograde one," he continued. "Undoubtedly the dairying industry is the backbone of this country, and we are vitally affected with the progress of the industry. The following were elected members of the council:—Messrs. G. H. Bell (Taranaki), re-elected; W. H. Miers and H. Moreland (South Auckland).
