MOTION OUT OF ORDER
CYCLING DISPUTE Because notice of the motion for consideration had not been given to centres in accordance with the rules, a suggested resolution of withdrawal from the New Zealand Cycling Federation was ruled out of order by the president of the New Zealand Amateur Cycling Association (Mr. _R. Thomas) at a meeting this week. Owing to various difficulties arising from a desire of the federation to interfere in the control of amateur cycling in New Zealand, the association's chairman (Mr. J. Fitzsimmons) had circulated a proposed resolution by which the association would withdraw from affiliation with the federation. Mr. Thomas ruled the motion out of order because only thirteen days' notice had been given to centres instead of the statutory fourteen. Later in the meeting it was decided that the president and chairman should meet in Christchurch on the afternoon of June 9 for a conference with federation delegates for the purpose of seeking a i basis for the settlement of existing difficulties without withdrawal from federation With the cash. body. The Auckland, Hawke's Bay, West Coast, Otago, and Canterbury Centres had all supported the chairman's proposed motion, 1 , the only centre disagreeing with, the suggestion. being Wellington, in preparing the motion Mr.'Fitzsimmons told the Wellington Centre the previous week .that he was actuated by a desire to see that amateur cycling was controlled by its own delegates without interference from the professional body dominant on the federation, executive. He alleged that by interfering with the' control .of amateur cycling the federation was prejudicing the future of the sport.
