INLAND AIR-MAIL SERVICE
"At the end of two months the amount received as surcharge on letters conveyed by air in New Zealand did not even approximate the amount spent by the Department in advertising the service," states the PostmasterGeneral (the Hon. F. Jones) in a letter to the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, under date June 1. "The returns taken for the tenth week of the service seem to indicate a state of stability which involves the carriage of 13,000 or 14,000 letters in the seven days. Last week the total weight of mail carried was only 4651b lloz, and I cannot at present see any prospect of an improved use of the air inside New Zealand. At this stage it is not! possible for me to state whether the air-mail experiment can be continued, as the period of trial has not yet concluded; but the whole matter will be gone into as soon as the final figures I we available."
