! MINING NEWS I AUSTRAL MALAY INTERESTS Mr. Harold Huntsman, deputy chairman of Austral Malay Tin, Ltd., Malaya, informed shareholders that a dredging area in New Zealand had been proved, and a company would shortlv be floated to mine it. It was also intended that the new company would take over and operate any other areas which they might discover in New Zealand, instead of floating a new company to operate each new property, as had been their practice with tin mines. Austral Malay would have a holding in the new company and shareholders in Austral Malay would be given the right to subscribe a large part of the present capital issue. A number of other properties in New ! Zealand was undergoing investigation. The terms of flotation of the new company would enable Austral Malay to wipe out a large proportion of the prospecting account standing ,in the balance-sheet at £29,983. The company's extensive prospecting in Australia so far had not provided a payable area, but the campaign was continuing. SKIPPERS, LIMITED. The secretary of Skippers, Limited, reports that advice has been received from the mine to the effect that a further partial wash-up took place on; June 1 which produced 1940z 4dwt of gold.' This is the result of 12 shifts' sluicing and represents an area of 230 square yards of bottom. Work is progressing on the paddock and good gold is still showing, and it is hoped that it may be possible to have another wash-up from the same paddock before the severe frosts set in. With the aforesaid wash-up the total amount of gold produced by this paddock so far is approximately 342 ounces. The directors consider that sufficient capital is now available to complete the hydroelectric scheme, on which work is now in full progress. MATAKI. Mataki, Murchison reports:—Last week the dredge worked on a face of 420 ft in an average depth of 15ft, the yardage lifted being 10,377. The dredge had a good run, but on Thursday the bottom started to rise, and by the end of the week, for a distance of 50ft in the tiank, we were again lifting 3ft of pug. FRUIT AND VEGETABLES.
