PETONE V. HUTT
Pctone attacked strongly from the kick-off, but Lilburne relieved with a fine line kick. A fumble by the Hutt i'ull-back, Davies, had his side in trouble, but the ball went dead. ; A Petone back movement in which Conian, Douglas, Adkins, and O'Connor were prominent was spoiled when the latter elected to cut in. Scorringe, Petone, crossed after all the backs had handled, but the pass was forward. Coman and Scorringe figured in a 50yard blind-side movement, the latter being pushed into touch. From a scrummage. Foley scored wide out. Petone 3. Hutt 0. Although Petone were winning most of the scrums, the greasy ball was hard to handle. Several foot rushes by the Hutt forwards, with Large and Burns prominent, had Petone in trouble, but Lonergan at full-back saved again and again. Play was largely confined to the forwards, with Hutt putting up a slightly better showing. An evenlycontested first spell finished: Petone 3, Hutt 0. In the second spell the Petone forwards better adapted themselves to the conditions, and were always dangerous. Fleming and Adkins (Petone) looked certain to score, but the ball bounced into touch. A fine rush by Lonergan, Adkins, and O'Connor (Petone) ended with a fine tackle by Todd. Foley (Pctone) was injured and had to retire. Hutt forwards, with Burns, Quinn, and McLellan prominent, looked certain to score, but Lonergan saved with a long kick. Strong defence by Large, Todd, Burns, and Eastwood in the Hutt pack nullified many promising Petone movements. Pilcher and Kreyl (Petone) sent their backs away, but Adkins dropped his pass. _ Large dribbled through for Hutt, but Lonergan relieved. Good work by Fleming, Dodds, and Kreyl (Petone) finished with Scorringe scoring in the corner. The kick missed., Petone 6, Hutt 0. From a melee near the Petone line Urbahn scored for Hutt. Lilburne converted. Petone 6, Hutt 5. Hutt were nearly over again, but Large was tackled near the line. Petone, playing two men short, found Hutt forwards hard to keep out. Scorringe and Newton (Petone) beat several men for Newton to score near the posts. Coman converted, making the final score: Petone 11, Hutt 5.
