TO BE REPLAYED
ABANDONED GAMES
LOCAL SOCCER CONTROL
Last Saturday's stormy weather and the consequent abandonment of some Soccer matches formed the subject of several letters received by last night's meeting of the management committee of the Wellington Football Association, over which Mr. W. B. Hicks presided.
Onslow wrote protesting against the result of ' their Second B Division team's match against Wadestown, and it was decided that the match must be replayed. "The referee did not turn up," said the Onslow letter, "and my team sportingly agreed to one of the Wadestown supporters refereeing. However, he only controlled the game until half-time, and then donned the Wadestown colours, and played for them, another gentleman taking the whistle." The Diamond''Club wrote that their Second A Division team had had only half of its members against Hospital, and that the game was abandoned, but the referee, Mr. J. Houston, reported that Diamond withdrew after twenty minutes in the second spell. Decision as to the result of the match was held over until a further report is obtained from Mr. Houston. Lower Hutt stated in a letter that their Second B Division team was ready to play Nada at Bell Park, but that Nada did not arrive, and they claimed the game by default. Decision on this game was also deferred until an explanation is obtained from the Nada Club. Keports were received from other referees and clubs concerning abandoned games, and it was decided that the following games, except where it is stated that decision is in abeyance, are to be replayed:— First A Division.—Marist v. Waterside; Seatoun v. Institute; Swifts v. Petone. First B Division.—Scottish Wanderers v. Miramar Rangers; Island Bay v. Rovers. Second A Division.—Hospital v. Diamond, in abeyance; Waterside v. Marist; Seatoun v. Institute. Second B Division. —Nada v. Lower Hutt, in abeyance; Wadestown v. Onlow; Technical 0.8. v. Scottish Wanderers. The principal of the Teachers' Training College, Mr. F. C. Lopdell, said in a letter that he would be pleased to receive representatives of the association at any convenient time, for the purpose of hearing their request that Soccer should be played at the Training College. The secretary (Mr. B. A. Mabin) is to arrange a time for a visit to Mr. Lopdell by Messrs. W. B. Hicks, F. Campbell, J. J. Kean, and J. Meltzer. Notification was received from the secretary of the Trentham Football Club that the club had been wound up and its assets, if any, were to be handed over to the newly-formed Upper Hutt United Club. . The secretary reported that he had conferred with Mr. All Williams, secretary of the New Zealand Football Association, regarding the Wellington Association's desire for a grant by the New Zealand Council to meet the expenses of a Poverty Bay team playing in Wellington on the King's Birthday, and that Mr. Williams had expressed the view that the council would not agree to the grant or to the playing of the match on the morning of the King's Birthday, before the match against the Australians here.
