MARLBOROUGH RACES
OPENING DAY AT BLENHEIM
~OF RECENT FORM
, ;'iseld3 similar to those that contested $$ racing at Nelson last weekend will parade for the galloping events on the opening day-of the Marlborough Racing Club's Autumn Meeting at Blenheim tomorrow, and form in these is therefore well disclosed. Two trotting events wjjl add interest to the card, the form for them liable to be better revealed after today's trotting meeting. •. .
The Marlborough Club has been struggling for several years to maintain1 -racing at Blenheim, in the hope that the trunk railway will some day open.,-up the province to Canterbury horses, and the fields for the meeting tomorrow and oh Saturday fortunately promise to provide satisfactory media for speculation and therefore a successful meeting for the club if the weather is at all propitious.
The club has made arrangements for another excursion across the Strait from Wellington for the second Say's racing on Saturday, when the Waterlea'Cup will be the principal race attraction. The Tamahine will leave at 7 a.m. on Saturday, passengers arriving in Blenheim in time for the first race, and -the return will be made leaving Picton at 7 p.m. With improved weather, as may. now be anticipated, the excursion should be a most enjoyable one. .; v .. The betting will be under the singlepool system, with two dividends in fields' of five or more chances. At present constitution two dividends look a possibility in all races, which should considerably, assist the club to an improved turnover. . The fields and. a brief review-of the Xorm are:— 12.15 HILLERSDKN TROT HANDICAP, £60; 343 ' ■"■ class; l% mllos. First Judga .. ser Kedflla scr Juggler scr Dusky Chum ... i! 6 lord Avis scr First Aid .... XS" There is hot much, present form to assist investors in the Hillersden Trot Handicap, but some may have emerged from today's racing at" the trotting meeting. Dusky Chum is a solid sort who has had recent racing, and Juggler has pace. First Aid has not been racing for some time, but paid a large second .dividend ■at the meeting last year. A likely pair may be Dusky Chum and Juggler. 12.55 -•■••; .■•;..:■■'■■' : '. ' iTRIAL STAKES,, £30; a-furlongs. Sky .Pilot .. fl'o Pawnbroker .. 8 7 Conception : v ... Indeed it is hard on figures even to countenance the possibility. of his defeat. Myriam looks _a definite second best and Gayspear third best, as they twice beat the others at Nelson. Form marks out Sky Pilot and Myriam. 1.40 PICTON HACK HANDICAP^ £60; 9 furlongs. Vinco :,.:.:...< 9 13. Vinco, the likely favourite, has yet to go nine furlongs, and, except that the class is very poor, one would not altogether like his prospects, though in such a field the pace may not be exacting. . Chaste is one who; will benefit at the longer range, and'she is now well placed in the weights. A pair who may command notice are Chaste and Vinco. 2.25 ...:.. FLAXBOURNE HANDICAP, £100; 1 mile." Sistercna 713 Sweet Agnes' . 0 G Royal Gallant .7 5: Darecourt ... 713 Eoso Val 7 0 Might and Sweet Agiies will have the chance to fight over last Monday's battle-in the Flaxbourne Handicap, and at 51b better terms Might will probably have more-friends than the mare. On form the only one who might worry the pair is" Sisterena, but she is not reliable, or rather she has to have her own rules. Royal Gallant appeared at Nelson to have gone to pieces, but he has had a few days in which to freshen up after. travelling and he is now well in at his weight. Form points to Might and Sweet Agnes. , 3.10 WITHER TROT HANDICAP, £60 ; 3.3-class• . - <■-. ■ Hi miles. CO Today's racing may also give a better perspective on the Wither ; Trot Handicap. If Buddy, Travis Pringle, and Activity have made a show today they may rule among the first choices. Lucky Guy is a fast horse but he does not always leave the mark too well Treasure Trove and Dandy Locanda are others with chances on what is known of the form. The favourites may include Buddy and Travis Pringle. 3.55,, ' ■: '■ OMAKA HACK HANDICAP, £00; 6 furlongs. Man, and Needful, who may.be very ordinary but at least have pace, it may be one of the lighter" weights who prevail, in this event, such as The Sandwich-Man or Windward. 4.40 ' .-U-" : . DELTA HANDICAP, £75: 7 furlongs.' Darccourt ... 9' 1 -Pegged ■ Sisterena 9 1 Exchange 7 H . Arena ;■':. 8 13 Kalmuck 7 11 Consummation 7. "13 Darecourt's consistency may have deserving reward in the Delta Handicap, but he is no good thing, for Sisterena, Arena, and Consummation are all capable of going along with him. Arena ran two different races at Nelson, but she freshens up quickly, or at least did so on the recent Coast circuit. Purely on weights Sisterena should win, but there is always that doubt about her. Consummation, who was not produced at Nelson, was regularly in the money over the Easter. A likely pair may be Darecourt and Consummation. . .
