CHARGE AGAINST MR..COATES
MANDATE FOR LABOUR
■' Mr. J. Thorn (Government, Thames) contended that the election speeches of members of the Government had shown quite clearly that under the guaranteed price'scheme the produce would become the property of the 'Government. He: claimed that Mr. Coates, in the course of his speech on the Bill, had been guilty of scaremongering. The Labour Party's policy had been placed before the country for many years, and if the people gave the Labour Party governmental power, jthen surely it was ridiculous for the claim to be made by Mr. Coates and other members of the Opposition that the Government had no mandate to put its guaranteed price scheme into operation. ■ There was a general feeling that ..the present dairy marketing arrangements left much to be desired..,
