Mr. C. J. B. Norwood, president of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, attended the meeting of the council of the chamber last evening for the first time since his recent motor iccident in Canterbury, and was warmly welcomed back by members of, the chamber.
The following members of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce have been elected to represent' that body at the British Empire Chambers of Commerce Congress, to be held in Wellington in October next: Messrs. C. J. B. Norwood (president), J. T. Martin (vice-president), and D/J. McGowan. .
Major K. G. C. Dennys, an officer of the British Army, in India, arrived at Wellington by the Wanganella today en route to England on leave. Major Dennys travelled from India via Java and Australia, and intends to spend about four weeks in the Dominion. '
The council of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce last evening agreed that a letter of condolence be sent to the family and relatives of the late Mr. William Hopkirk,-. who joined the chamber in 1912; and membe-s stood in silence as a mark of respect. Mr- D. S. N. McCartney, manager of the Sun Insurance Office, Ltd., who is leaving tomorrow for Austraiia on a business trip, was the guest "of honour at a j dinner at the Grand Hotel tendfr|d l°, him by the Wellington branch staff of tne Sun Office. In wishing Mr. McCartney "bon voyage" and a suet SI ?} i Xip> Mr- L" E" Duncan, on Denalf of the staff, presented him with a silver cigarette case suitably inscribed. Mr. and Mrs. .McCartney afterwards entertained the party at their home in Moxham Avenue. "
