MISS G. WALSHE, HOSTESS
Chrysanthemums in warm bronze tints and orange poppies made a cheerful atmosphere in . Miss Gwenethe Walshe's attractive studio, the "Evening Post" building, on Saturday evening, when over 200 dancers were present.
The guests were received by Miss Gwenethe Walshe, who wore a frock of ivory crepe suede, beaded in green and silver on the wide shoulder straps
and on the low-cut backline, which was finished with soft bows of willowgreen velvet. Assisting her was Miss Shirley Walshe, who wore a bouffant frock of sweet-pea mauve taffeta with a tri-coloured swathed sash. Miss Moira Walshe wore a cape of frilled pink tulle, with her black satin frock.
Modern dances were intermingled] with "Paul Jones" and other novelty | numbers which were the source of i general enjoyment. An innovation in i demonstration dancing was the forma-1 tion waltz danced simultaneously by four couples. This dance, which was shown for the first time in a. New Zealand studio, commences with the dancers facing diagonally to the centre and working across the floor from the four corners. The effect was extremely attractive as the girls'wore very full-skirted frocks of white georgette made withrthe' graceful' draperies "so suited ,to the , rhythm of . the modem waltz. * They also' 'wore .wide belts' of silver; silver floral headbands, ■ and shoulder trails .of. .silver flowers.. Those who'took part in. this'formation dance were" Miss Abbey Kenny ' and Mr. Waldo Zander, Miss June Furri and Mr,.. Reg. Hendricksen, Miss Kathleen Airiscdu'gh and 'Mr.' Jack Nunns, and Mr. and'Mrs.'L: A. Fielder: ' ' Winners of novelty dances were Miss Eileen Fearn and Mr. Fred Morgan and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Moore. Excellent.dance music was provided by an up-to-date dance band, the leader making, a capable ma'step. of ceremonies'.1-" " •-•'"■"• i -...v-. . . : Delicious, refreshments were. provided iii.an'adjoining fp'om, where the tables were ' decorated with" shower vases of Iceland poppies, ' Among those present \vere Mr. and Mrs. T: F.
