MORTGAGORS

PRIME MINISTER'S ADVICE

In the House of Representatives yesterday Mr.1 H. S. S. Kyle (National, afternoon, Mr. H. S. S. Kyle (National, Riccarton), in an urgent question to the Prime Minister (the Hon. M. J. Savage) asked whether, in view of the opportunity to take advantage of the Mortgagors Final Adjustment Act, brought down by the late Government, expiring on May 1, and as many mortgagors were entering into voluntary agreements because of the pressure of their mortgagees, lie would see that provision was made, when framing his legislation, for those men to reap any benefits which other mortgagors gained through being more fortunate in that their affairs were not under review. Failing this, would the Prime Minister suspend the Adjustment Commission pending the passing of the Government legislation, and make some announcement which would hold up all present negotiations between mortgagor and mortgagee. The Prime Minister said that mortgages would be dealt with on the same basis as guaranteed prices. His advice to mortgagors was to take advantage of the existing legislation.
