NEW YORK, April 26.
Trenton, New Jersey, is alarmed by the invasion of hunger strikers who piled into the State capital and by the crowding of the Assembly Chamber with more demonstrators. Two nights' and three days' occupation of the Chamber have turned that once august room into something resembling a war-time dug-out.
The controversy between the unemployed and the State Government developed into something of an endurance contest when a meeting of the Legislature to vote new taxes was cancelled and the hunger marchers continued to occupy the Legislative Chambers. In the absence of other comforts, the workless made themselves comfortable as best they could by using law books as pillows. While they slept several women devoted their time to sewing and knitting, converting the legislators' desks into improvised work tables.
The postponement of the sitting of the Legislature followed inability by the leaders to agree on an emergency tax programme. Meanwhile the unemployed have indicated that they are prepared to hold the fort until something is done.
