NEW YORK, April 25.
Before 2500 enthusiastic partisans at the Jefferson birthday dinner tonight, President Roosevelt launched a vigorous defence of his administration in an address which was regarded as the keynote of the coming campaign. Declaring that the various sections of the nation had become economically interdependent, he said in effect that the only way to meet the problem was through continuance of planned economy. It is regarded as significant that, speaking in New York, which is the financial centre of the nation, Mr. Roosevelt emphasised the budgetary situation and defended his Administration's spending policy to bring about recovery. He said that while there was indicated a current deficit of 3000 million dollars, the nation's income had increased from 35,000 million'dollars in 1932 to 65,000 million this year.
