OVERTAXED HOSPITAL
A CHANGE OF SITE?
CONFERENCE PROPOSED
(By Telegraph—Press Associatiai )
DARGAVILLE, This Day.
A meeting of the Kaipara Hospital Board considered a report by Dr. R. A. Shore, Director of the Hospital Division of the Department of Health, following his visit to the Northern Wairoa Hospital last month.
The report stated that the institution was lamentably overtaxed at the time of his visit. There were enough male patients reasonably to fill all the wards, and the women patients were using the isolation ward. He recommended building a new ward for women and devoting the existing accommodation to the men, also recovering the present nurses' home and enlarging it. Further additions were also set out, but the foregoing were regarded as urgent.
The board's architect estimated the cost of these works at between £8000 and £10,000.
The question of these additions brought up the question of the removal of the hospital from its present site at Tekopuru to Dargaville, a distance of seven miles, and the board decided to call a conference of contributing local bodies to meet it on May 8 to discuss the matters.
