AVENGER'S FAVOURITISM
The apparent reason for the preference for Avenger over all the other Grand National candidates at Aintree recently is disclosed in files to hand, which show that Avenger beat Reynoldstown in the Stayers' Steeplechase at Bromford Bridge on February 25. The race was over three miles and three furlongs, in heavy- going, and both horses finished well in the fast time of 7min 20 4-ssec.
Avenger, who fell and broke his neck in the recent Grand National Steeplechase, was owned by Mrs. V. Mundy, and was trained by T. Rimell, who prepared Forbra, the National winner of 1932.
