INQUEST ON ENGINEER
EVIDENCE OF VERONAL

AUCKLAND, This Day.
Twenty witnesses are to be called at an inquest which opened today into the death of Sidney John Anderson, aged 47, motor engineer, who died in the Public Hospital on February 17.
The Government Analyst (Mr. K. M. Griffin), gave evidence that he recovered over eight grains of veronal from certain organs given to him.
Kenneth MacKenzie, surgeon, said that a cancer tumour was discovered at a post-mortem examination.
The Coroner is Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., and the case for the police is being conducted by Detective-Sergeant Walsh. The widow is represented by Mr. K. A. Singer.
Anderson, who lived at Point Chevalier, was admitted to hospital on the afternoon of February 17, and died early the next morning. An inquest was opened on the day following, and was adjourned sine die to enable inquiries to be made.
When evidence was being given today by one of the medical men, Mrs. Anderson, who was dressed in black, and sat alongside her solicitor, broke down and was assisted from the court. She returned a few minutes later.
