HARRIER SEASON
OFFICIAL OPENING
The Wellington harrier season was officially opened at Lyall Bay on Saturday afternoon by the Mayor (Mr. T. C. A. Hislop), after which the members of the clubs represented took part in a combined run of about three miles. Both Mr. Hislop and the president of the Wellington. Amateur Athletic Centre (Mr. A. C. Kitto) wished the harriers a good season and the best of luck. They spoke of the progress that had been made, and Mr. Kitto expressed the opinion that the harriers would be ill-advised to break away from the present system of control. The Mayor started the runners— about 100 of them—on their three miles trail. A run-in of about 400 yards was held, and this provided a verykeen tussle for the main places. D. Walker (Methodist) just shaded J.-Rid-dington (Scottish) for first place; H. Cowan (Scottish) was third, and A. W. McNaugh (Olympic) v was fourth.
