EASTER SHOW
CROWDS ATTEND
PETS' PARADE
The attendances in the afternoon and evening on the first Saturday of the Easter Show were a most encouraging augury for the financial success of the big fair, gate takings amounting to £80 more than on the first Saturday last year, an increase representing one-third. The weather was dull and threatening during the afternoon, but the rain was not heavy, and even the outdoor attractions were fairly busy. It was children's day, and the boys and girls were enthusiastic in their thorough exploration of the manifold interests which appealed to them, the model sections drawing an absorbed circle, especially, the power boats. The massed' bands display was postponed owing to the weather. Lady Galway and a party from Government House visited the show, and the Hon. Mary Monckton won first prize in the Pets' Parade with her dog.
In the evening there was a display of dancing. On this occasion six of the teams took part in a fine marching display. These events are very popular, and the stadium was well filled, while the applause was generous. Much of the attraction of these. displays is the ingenuity and skill shown in the costuming, but sometimes the simpler effects are impressive. Music was supplied by a band, which greatly assisted the marchers. The teams which appeared were Amos and Co., Aitken's Arcade, General Motors No. 1, General Motors No. 2, James Smith's, J. R. McKenzie's.
Parties of children from, the Manawatu and Wairarapa will visit the show this week.
The free cinema is always well filled, and visitors never seem to tire in inspecting all the exhibits, while the sideshows, with their "barkers" and musical side add to the merry medley of sounds. The indications are that all the sideshows are doing well, and the brightly-lit cavern under the din-ing-rooms is a lively spot when the fun is at its height. The show .was crowded on Saturday evening.
Their Excellencies the GovernorGeneral and Lady Galway have intimated that they will attend the show on. Easter Saturday, Easter Monday, and the Tuesday, when the horse and pony events will be held. Their Excellencies' children will take part in the riding events. i; PETS' PARADE. The Pets' Parade drew a large attendance. The competition was divided into two classes, for pets of children under eight and for those of children from eight to eighteen. The stadium was well filled, chiefly by children, who thronged round the owners of the pets for information and a pat if permitted.
