MIDLAND SUCCEED IN SENIOR GRADE
TWO CENTURIES ON FINAL DAY
The local cricket championship competitions for the 1935-36 season ended on Saturday afternoon, and in keeping with the general experience throughout the season the weather was by no means favourable. Senior honours were carried off by Midland, for whom Crawford and O'Neill were the principals in collecting the runs. Crawford, a young batsman of considerable promise, had the distinction of making a century in the championship final. The damp conditions affected play, with the batsmen better favoured than the h«»wlers. Midland, nevertheless, had a hard struggle in the effort to reach their objective. Their win "was well merited, and they are senior champions again after a period of five years. There was not a great deal of interest in the other senior matches. Hutt did not succeed in gaining an outright win over Wellington College Old Boys, for whom L. V. Browne made his second century of the season, Rainbird also making a tidy score. Kilbirnie dismissed Karori cheaply, but had to be content with a win on the first innings. There was no further play in the Petone-University match. A striking feature of the results in other grades was that Institute and Karori each won three championships from second grade to junior D. The third grade championship was won by Petone.
