INVESTORS LOST £406,577!
Figures have been released that show the heavy wagering that takes place in South Australian betting shops and on the racecourses. In 12 months 22,000,000 bets were laid, representing an-investment of £4,660,547. Approximately 1,800,000 bets each month is the record of South Australian . race meetings, and of the £4,660,547 invested during the 12 months successful bettors were paid £4,253,970, leaving a balance of £406,577 to be shared among 394 licensed bookmakers. This works out at more than £1000 each. The bookmakers paid out £93,211 in turnover tax. Of this amount £63,688 went to the Government, £29,203 to the racing clubs, and £319 towards administration expenses.
