LIGHT RAIN POSSIBLE

Special forecast for Wellington:— Moderate to strong north-westerly to westerly winds. Occasional light rain is possible, but the weather for the most part

should be fair and mild.

The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today, is for moderate southerly to south-westerly winds to the north of New Plymouth and Napier, these veering temporarily to the west. Moderate'to strong north-westerly to westerly winds will prevail elsewhere and these will back later to the south-west. Scattered intermittent rain is probable in districts with a westerly aspect and in the southern half of the South Island, but the weather should be mainly fair to fine with moderate temperatures. An anticyclone extends from the northern Tasman Sea across the North Island, its centra having remained to the west of the Auckland peninsula. A westerly depression covers the southern Tasman Sea, and during last night a slight low-pressure wave crossed the southern part of New Zealand. The latter was responsible for some scattered rain in the western and southern districts of the South Island, but generally speaking the weather has been fair, mild, and hazy. Light southerly winds have prevailed in the northern portion of the North Island, but elsewhere mainly light to moderate northerlies have been blowing, but winds have been strong in places in the Cook and Foveaux Straits, and Puysegur Point reports a north-westerly gale.'

It was fine and"mild in Wellington yesterday, 8.5 hours of bright sunshine being recorded. A north-westerly breeze has prevailed. This was light last night, but since early this morning it has freshened again somewhat.

Christchurch had a. fine and sunny day yesterday. A moderate east-north-east breeze prevailed in the morning and a fresh easterly wind in the afternoon. The night was calm, however, and at 9 a.m. today it was cloudy. with a gentle breeze from the northeast. ■' ■' '

Dunedin also has had sunny weather with a moderate to fresh northeasterly breeze. There was some thunder, there last .night, and a trace of rain fell. The weather this morning was cloudy with a fresh wind blowing from the west-north-west.
