A GREAT MINISTER
LATE HONi G. J. ANDERSON
A striking tribute to the work of the late Hon.'G. J. Anderson, wlien Minister of Mines, was paid by the Leader of the Legislative Council (the Hon. M.' Fagan) in the Council yesterday ' afternoon;.
.Mr. Fagan said that the late Mr. Anderson had always 'shown great interest in anything pertaining to the safety and welfare- of workers in West Coast mines. Further^ he had shown sympathy when administering the pension laws/ when Minister of Pensions; and had alwaysl' given the applicant the benefit of the doubt.
"He was■ one'of the greatest Ministers of 'jMines' we have had," said Mr. Fagan. N "l'he Mining Act and the Coal- Mines,' Act in New Zealand are more' up to/date than in any other cduntry I know, and that is in no small measure due to the late Mr. Anderson."
A motion was carried expressing appreciation of the late Mr. Anderson's services, and extending sympathy to his relatives, and the Council adjourned.
