RACING AT PAHIATUA
DUNGARVAN'S FINE EFFORT
THREE TRENTHAM WINNERS
. (Special from "Rangatira.") •";, . PALMERSTON N., This Day. Keen: and interesting racing was provided by the useful fields that paraded lor the-opening day of the Pahiatua Racing. Club's Annual Meeting at Pahiatua yesterday, and the form disclosed should give a serviceable line for followers ■of the sport at Easter. Particularly attractive were the wins of Dungarvan, Flammarion, and Geitel, all of whom should not be long in enjoying further successes.. Dungarvan is one of the best young handicappers at present in commission, susceptible to much further improvement too, and he looks to hold a good chance of adding the Feilding Cup to his impressive record at Easter, a race in which he is to make his next appearance. ... The weather was fine, after threatening rain clouds had passed over just priorto the first race, the sun shining congenially throughout the afternoon. The track was very green and in excellent galloping, order. For a rather unusual race-day, though the same days were used by the- club at last year's meeting, there was a very satisfactory attendance, mostly local racegoers. After a poor initial pool, the betting was more brisk, and some of the smaller fields carried surprisingly good investments. , The turnover for the day amounted to £6200 10s, as against £6163 10s last year, an increase of. £37. Trenjtham stables had a good day, their half-dozen, representatives at the meeting: winning three races, the successful horses being Darecourt, Chile, and Geitel; The Trentham horseman P. Burgess also did well,: winning races on Cloudy Bay, Geitel, and Chile. Favourites were victorious m five events. . . The order of the last two events was reversed after the acceptance, in order to have a better race for the final event; This change', was not generally known outside of the district.
