SAVINGS INCREASE

Particulars of Australian savings banks deposits at January 31, 1936, have ibeen made available by the Commonwealth ■ Statistician. The statement shows an increase of deposits during the twelve months of £7,913,000—fr0m £213,175,000 to £221,088,000—f0r all savings banks in Australia. On January 31 last deposits increased by £560,000 for the month, during which time they were £3.100,000 higher than at June 30 last. For the corresponding seven months of the previous year the increase was only £2,500,000.
