CHURCH APPOINTMENTS
WELLINGTON DIOCESE
A number of changes among the clergy of the Wellington Diocese are announced in the current issue of the "Church Chronicle" as follows:—
The Rev. H. S. I. Kenney, Vicar of Foxton and Shannon, has been appointed to succeed the Rev. G. V. Gerard as Vicar of St. Augustine's, Petone, and will take up his new work in May. The parishioners are to be congratulated on obtaining a vicar who, lite his able predecessor, has had much valuable training and experience both in New Zealand and England. Mr. Kenney was educated at St. John's College, Auckland, and before his ordination was associated with the work of the City Mission. He served as assistant-curate at All Saints', Palmerston North, for several years, and there his great work amongst the boys and young men of the parish will long be remembered. . He then went to England, to study for his Arts degree at Cambridge University, and during his years there also served as assist-ant-curate at St. Andrew's, Chesterton, a parish near Cambridge, with a population of 7000. After taking his degree at the> university, he returned to New Zealand and was appointed Vicar of Foxton and Shannon.
The Rev, E. W. Burgin, Vicar of Mangaweka, has been appointed vicar of Foxton and Shannon.
The Rev. L. A. Barnes, Vicar of Kiwitea, has been■ appointed Vicar of Temuka, in the Christchurch Diocese. Mr. Barnes formerly was head student of St. John's College, Auckland, and took his degree at Auckland University.
The Rev. G. V. Gerard, who will be instituted vicar of St. Matthew's, Auckland, in May, is to conduct a retreat for the.clergy in St. John's College Chapel, to be held in the same month. ■
The Rev. A. C. Harper, formerly a stipendiary lay reader in the Masterton parish, has been appointed vicar of Kumara, in the Christchurch Diocese. He was educated at St. John's College, Auckland, and at' College . House, Christchurch. ,
The Rev. W. E. Davies, Vicar of Hokitika, in the Christchurch .Diocese, formerly assistant curate at St. James's, Lower Hutt, has been appointed Rural Dean of Westland.
The Rev. Melville Holmes, formerly assistant curate at Karori, who recently went to England to gain fresh experience, is now working as assistant priest at the Church of St. Michael, Tividale, in Staffordshire. The parish is a large industrial one in the Lichfield Diocese.
The Rev. N. L. Watkins, Vicar of Hororata, in the Christchurch Diocese, will succeed the Rev. E. W. Burgiii as Vicar of Mangaweka. He is a son of Mr. L. Watkins, the organist of St. Mark's,' Wellington, and was educated at St. John's College, Auckland.
