JUDGMENT CONFIRMED

After Reynoldstown had won ths Mapperley Steeplechase at Leicester on January 6, an event worth only £83, but his first race since his National success o£ the previous year, "Meyrick Good," of the "Sporting Life," wrote:—. ,

"The performance was without blemish, and it is possible that Reynoldstown is an improved horse compared with last season. I have known horses that have trained on to a vast extent after they have risen eight years, Dudley being a well-known instance. Major Furlong tells me that Reynoldstown was late in maturing, and that when he was six years old he was more like a three-year-old. .

"Mr. Walwyn had not ridden him in public prior to the Mapperley. He got on splendidly with .the horse, just as he did when riding him in a recent schooling gallop. The .conditions of the Mapperley favoured Reynoldstown, and it was not; surprising that odds were laid on him. His backers had no anxious moments. He took every fence in his stride, clearing the open ditches with a foot or more to spare. He was hard on his rider's hands from the instant Mr. Walwyn gay» him rein." —
