LICENCE SUSPENDED

DARTON FIELD AERODROME

IMPROVEMENTS NEEDED

(By Telegraph—Pi-ess Association.)

GISBORNE, This Day.

The licence for the use of Darton Field aerodrome by aircraft is to be suspended by order of the Director of Aviation* to permit of improvements being carried but in accordance with the scheme submitted to the Government by the late Squadron-Leader M. C. McGregor, ■ and in consequence. East Coast Airways services to Napier will be temporarily suspended as from Wednesday next. The condition of the aerodrome has been a controversial point for some time, the Airways Company having been considerably handicapped on account of the rough surface which prohibited maximum loads being carried. The period of suspension depends upon the progress made with the improvements, but it is likely to be some weeks at least and the company will again lose the valuable Easter traffic, for which there have been heavy bookings.
