A report published by Dr. Hans Mueller, chief medical officer of the German War Ministry, gives the results of the medical examination of the 1914 and 1915 classes who have just been called up for military service and labour service respectively. For the first time it is possible to compare the health of a pre-war level— that of 1913 —with one consisting of young men who have been subjected to physical training. The result shows that the proportion of men passed ai fit in either the first or second category was 77 per cent, in 1935 as compared with 63.6 per cent, in 1913. The proportion in the third category of "conditionally fit" was 6 per cent.' in 1935, as compared with 12.4 in 1913. Consequently the proportion of men. accepted for service was respectively; 83 per cent and 76 per cent.
