SONG BOY WORKING WELL

(Special to the "Evening Post.")

DUNEDIN, March 9. The approaching Cromwell Meeting to be held on Friday, and Saturday next made the proceedings at Wingatui on Saturday morning of some interest. Nearly all the fast work, was preferred on the outside of the course proper (50ft out), the footing being slow. . Song Boy.finished three lengths clear of Paladino when completing five furlongs in lmin 7 3-ssec, shaping well. Stratosphere, who has been transferred to D. J. McDonald at Wingatui, was half a length ahead of Pink Del in a. five-furlong task done in lmin 8 5-ssec. Te Ahurangi and Wyn battled out seven furlongs nicely in lmin 36 l-ssec, the former being the victor. : Daring Deed let Cherry Queen lead her to the straight over six furlongs, but she then ranged up and finished on a winner. Their last half-mile showed 57 2-ssec Shock was not required to do her best when running six furlongs in lmin 26 2-ssec.

When Sunny Jean had Great Pal beaten near the close of half a mile she was eased to wait on her companion. The journey occupied 58 2-ssec.

The other gallops included, on the'inside grass, six furlongs between Golden King and Salmo Salar in lmin 24 4-ssec, the former winning. The Jeweller, a rising four-year-old in H. Ellis's stable, ran half a mile on the course proper in 57"3-ssec.

Jaunt jumped three steeplechase fences, in a good manner, and Blue Metal was always out jumping a Tractor gelding in a round of the big fences. The Tractor gelding dislodged his rider at the first of the stand double and the fall stunned-the horseman for a"few ■minutes.
