STUD'S FIRST WINNER
Emmeline Girl, who gained her first success in the Motukarara Juvenile Stakes at Banks Peninsula last Saturday, was imported from Australia by Mr. J. J. McGrath, who purchased her at the foot of her dam at the Easter Sales, Sydney, in 1934. She was submitted for sale at the New Zealand yearling sales last year, but failing to reach her reserve, she was leased to Mr. J. P. Low, of Greymouth, for whom she won on Saturday.
Emmeline Girl is by the Melbourne Cup winner Backwood from Humorada, by Comedy King from Lady Fisher, the last-named mare being the dam of the late*' Sir James Carroll's great horse Maniapotp. His win is of interest, because her victory marks the first success -to1 the credit of The Curragh Stud.'Waikanae. The oldest horses actually bred: at this stud are the yearlings sold last January, but Emmeline Girl was-reared at the stud and remained there' until she was put into training. '.-' '.■"■ ' . ■
