ROYAL CHORAL UNION

ANNUAL MEETING

Some seventy members attended last evening's annual meeting of the Royal Wellington Choral Union, Dr. Macdonald Wilson, the president, ingIn moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, a summary of which has already been published, Dr. Wilson congratulated members on the past year's working. The number of members, both performing and honorary, had increased, whicn was a pleasing sign, and there had been increased public interest in the performances. He paid tribute to the work of Mr. Stanley Oliver as conductor and to the work of the other officers of the society. Mr. E. M. Pankhurst remarked that the committee was to be congratulated upon having broken new ground, and 'he suggested that the balancesheet in future might be presented in a different form so as to show the result of the year's operations. The chairman of the committee, Mr. H. E. Moston, said that real headway had been made during the past year. Attendances at concerts had been better and it had been particularly pleasing to see so many young people, especially young men, present. He was also pleased to be able to announce that further new music was to be purchased and in this direction they were again indebted to Mr. B. Sutherland for his generosity. The remarks made by Mr. Stanley Oliver on the outlook for choral music are reported elsewhere. The following officers were elected: Patron, his Excellency the GovernorGeneral, Viscount Galway; vice-patron, the Prune Minister, the Hon. M. J. Savage; president. Dr. D. Macdonald Wilson; vice-presidents, Mr. T. Lindsay Buick, C.M.G., Rev. J. R. Blanchard, Mr. R. Parker, C.M.G., and Mr. B. Sutherland; conductor, Mr. Stanley Oliver; deputy conductor, Mr. Harry Brusey; lion, organist, Mr. W. Lawrence Haggitt; lion, accompaniste, Miss Dorothy Mills; hon. librarian, Mr. J. E. Perry; hon. auditor, Mr. C. D. Morpeth: hon. membership steward, Mr. H. E. Moston; hon. solicitor,. Mr. E. P. Hay; hon. treasurer, Mr. W. O. Bock; hon. secretary, Mr. W. E. Caldow; hon. assistant secretary, Mr. S. J. Anderson: committee, Messrs. W.J. Chartres, T. L. Cocks, R. H. Shearer, E. J. C. Wiffen, and E. M. Pankhurst.
