KING EDWARD'S WINNINGS
When King Edward VII started racing fiat racers, an account of £ 1000 was opened at Weatherby's. So successful were his horses that at • one time £60,000 stood to his Majesty's credit. From 1893 to 1910 inclusive, Richard Marsh" won for him 106 races and £134,687 in first-prize money. The only winner in 1910 was the filly Witch of the Air. She won on the day that her owner died. During his association with the Turf, King Edward's horses won £146,128 in stakes, the stallions, including Persimmon, Diamond Jubilee, and Flonzel 11, earned £269,495 in stud fees, and sales of his Majesty's stock realised £77,000, making a total of £492,623. In 1900 the King, then Prince'of Wales, headed the list of winning owners with a total of £29,585 10s, contributed to mainly by Diamond Jubilee. . ,
