WORK TO PROCEED

WHIROKINO DEVIATION

MINISTER'S DECISION

(Special to the "Evening Post.") PALMERSTON N., This Day. After visiting the Whirokino highway yesterday and hearing representations fron* interested bodies, the Hon. R. Semple, Minister of Public Works, wasted no time in deciding that there should be a deviation in the road, and gave instructions to the engineers of the Public Works Department to get on with the work. Several alternative routes were placed before the Minister, and he went over the properties which would be traversed by the two most favoured. He made no choice in regard to these, but one has already been tentatively approved by the Main Highways Board. •■ This deviation is estimated to cost between £60,000 and £70,000. A positive assurance of immunity from 'flooding is given by the engineers of the Public Works Department.
