CAREFUL BATSMAN

.» FINGLETON MAKES 167

AUSTRALIA AND NATAL DRAW

FARCICAL DECLARATION

United Press Association—By Electric Tele-graph-Copyright. (Received February 26, noon.) DURBAN, February 25. An innings of 167 by Fingleton and the declaration of Australia's innings late in the afternoon when' the score was 326 for nine wickets, were features of the final day's play in the cricket match between Australia and Natal, which resulted in a draw. By lunch today Australia had advanced the over-night score of 10 for no wickets to 110 for two. A strong wind hampered the slow bowler, Murray, who was so successful in Australia's first innings. Fingleton and Brown today flayed him without the slightest difficulty. Dalton was brought on and broke the partnership in his second over. Dalton, bowling into the wind, continued to worry the batsmen, and soon afterwards dismissed McCabe. SOLID BATTING. The only noteworthy feature of the innings was Fingleton's solid batting for 167, in which he treated the attack" strictly on its merits. After Natal had tried six bowlers on him he eventually threw caution to the winds and his innings ended when he was smartly stumped. There were stages when he batted very brightly, lifting Harvey over the fence and crashing him to the boundary. He hit sixteen 4's. He has reached his 1000 runs for the tour. Richardson's declaration of the innings was farcical, leaving Natal only 35 minutes to get 311 runs. The match petered out, and when an appeal against the light was upheld at 5.45 p.m. it ended in a draw. • Details:— AUSTRALIA. First innings 256 Second Innings. Brown, c H.
